President's Message: September 2022

I’m so excited – and I just can’t hide it!

The time has FinALLy arrived.  Some of you may be thinking this is going to be a post that talks about my love for pumpkin spice everything. Spoiler alert – this news is WAY more exciting than anything I can describe about the season. Those of you that attended the 42nd Congress in Reno and had a sneak peek at the new NAON logo probably share in my excitement – it’s even better than pumpkin spice season –  it is finally time to launch our new logo!

I’d like to thank everyone that was involved in the design of the new logo – it is so very impressive! My favorite symbolism in the logo is the gold “N” in the middle. When NAON’s designer, Kara Cooke, shared that the “N” in the center of the logo represents NAON as the gold standard of orthopaedic nursing, I knew the team had hit the mark. I’m so proud of who we are - we are the gold standard!

In addition to the new logo, we are extremely excited to debut the new NAON Website. Thank you to everyone who has worked to make the look and feel of the new space something to be proud of. You will see the new logo and experience navigation which is intuitive and mobile-friendly. Webinars and products will be just a few clicks away through the Education Catalogue. We have expanded the content that can be viewed without logging in so you can more easily share content about NAON with non-member colleagues. Please take a look and spread the word about the new website.

As we launch our 2023 membership cycle, we have more exciting news. We are welcoming allied health professionals to join NAON. We all know that the interprofessional team which includes physical therapists, social workers, orthopaedic technologists, medical assistants, pharmacists, dietitians, and many others is the heart of the orthopaedic patient experience. Our new associate membership was created with allied health professionals at top of mind. Please be sure to reach out to your non-nursing colleagues to share information about membership.

We are entering the most exciting month for orthopaedic nurses as stores are already filled with bones and skeletons for Halloween. I spotted some special Cheetos called “Bag of Bones” at the store this week – the snacks are shaped like skulls, femurs, and rib cages. This sets us up for a very festive Orthopaedic Nurses Day on October 30. How are you planning to celebrate? We plan to celebrate our NAON community with webinars, discounts, and so much more - stay tuned and know I am celebrating you all!

While this message is filled with seasonal fun, I want to be sure our our friends and members in the path of Hurricane Ian know we are thinking of all of you all.  Your NAON network is here for you.

All my best.
