Healthy Tips From ANA's Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ Blog

Welcome to November!

It is the beginning of fall with cooler temperatures and (in some places) changing views of nature. The interesting things we see if nothing stays the same! Time moves on and we get to decide what we want to do with it.

In the Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation by the American Nurse’s Association, the challenge for strength is a focus in November. The challenge is incorporating strength activities into your day like managing weight, sharpening thinking skills, strengthening bones, and helping to manage chronic conditions. The amazing benefits of regular strength training are endless!

Here are a few benefits of strength training:

1. Develop strong bones- increase bone density, reduce osteoporosis

2. Manage weight- strength training can increase metabolism to burn calories

3. Enhance life quality- improves everyday activity protecting from injury- balance, reduce fall risk

4. Manage chronic conditions- reducing signs and symptoms (arthritis, heart disease, depression, diabetes)

5. Sharpen thinking- can be essential for improving thinking and learning as we get older

Strength training can be done anywhere for any body type- body weight exercises, resistance bands, free weights, weight machines. It can be done at home or a gym. Consult a physician and move toward greater strength!
